Tue 01 Jan, 06:30 PM

Leyton Orient were held to a goalless draw for their second home match running as struggling Gillingham claimed a vital point. It took a full-length save by goalkeeper Stuart Nelson from visiting captain Andrew Crofts to deny Gills a second away win of the season.

Gillingham posed early threats but midfielder Barry Cogan and striker Gary Mulligan shot high over. Orient striker Andy Barcham eluded opponents and forced visiting keeper Simon Royce to block his shot before hitting a post with a follow-up effort.

Home midfielder Wayne Corden was nearest to a first-half goal when his shot took a 39th-minute deflection and floated over Royce and the crossbar.

Orient midfielder Paul Terry's header from a Corden cross flew just over and then Royce saved at full stretch from Barcham and held a header from fellow striker Adam Boyd.

Gillingham had penalty claims waved away when Adam Miller went down and Nelson made an important save from Mark Bentley. Boyd had an 82nd-minute goal for Orient disallowed for a clear offside.
