Brother Incentive For Anderson

Tue 01 Jan, 12:29 AM

Kiwi star Louis Anderson admits the chance to play alongside his brother Vinnie at Warrington was too good to turn down.

Anderson, 22, this winter linked up with his older brother at the Halliwell Jones Stadium after leaving NRL side New Zealand Warriors.

Vinnie Anderson, 28, joined the Wolves from St Helens last season and when the opportunity arose for Louis to follow, the youngster jumped at the chance.

"It is great to be here," said the younger Anderson. "I have settled in fine and it has been easier for me than the boys coming from Australia, with having my brother here.

"He is excited to have me here. He mentioned something to me about coming to Warrington and didn't think I'd take it up.

"But it is an opportunity I've been blessed with, an opportunity to play alongside my brother. With the age difference it's something that might not happen again.

"When he said it could be the last opportunity to play with each other, there was nothing that was going to change my mind. I could regret not taking it up later in my career.

"His excitement was convincing enough for me to come here. A lot of other Kiwis have come here and enjoyed it, so I had a lot of faith coming here."

Coach Paul Cullen admits the opportunity to sign Louis came about as a result of a chance comment during contract negotiations with Vinnie.

Vinnie, also a former Warriors player, agreed a three-year deal with the Wolves in October 2006 and Louis' signing for 2008 was announced three months later.

Cullen revealed: "It was basically an ice-breaker when we met with Vinnie. It came up in conversation that his talented young brother - who we were also aware of - might be available.

"We became excited Louis might be able to come at this point."

With Vinnie having proved his worth in a number of positions, the Andersons could link up in the Wolves pack with Louis having been earmarked for a place in the second row.

Louis Anderson is one of four new players brought in by Cullen from Down Under ahead of the next campaign. Star Australia centre Matt King, half-back Michael Monaghan and winger Chris Hicks will bring a fresh look to the Wolves side and Anderson admits he has high hopes.

"Warrington has so much potential and with the boys that have come over there should be high expectations next year," he said.

"I have played against these guys these past few years in the NRL and know they are great players. The club should do well next year."
