Jackson primed for Gills debut

Fri 01 Feb, 03:16 PM

Simeon Jackson is set to make his Gillingham debut as they look to get back to winning ways at home to fellow strugglers Cheltenham. The Gills are without a win in their last four games, and with only one goal scored in those games, manager Mark Stimson is likely to hand Jackson - a deadline day signing from Rushden & Diamonds - an instant debut, with Gary Mulligan his likely partner in attack.

Midfielder Mark Bentley was rested for the defeat at Tranmere because of an Achilles problem but he should be fit to return, probably in place of Barry Cogan.

Winger Dennis Oli should also be included in the squad after recovering from the hamstring injury which has kept him out since the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on December 29.

Centre-back Simon King came through his return from a hamstring injury at Prenton Park unscathed and will be included again, with on-loan Adam Bygrave putting pressure on Garry Richards to partner him at the heart of the defence.

Another centre-half, Ian Cox, was left out of the 16 completely against Tranmere after playing three games in a week on his comeback from a thigh problem and could be included, but midfielder Nicky Southall - also left out on Tuesday - serves a one-match suspension after being booked for the fifth time this season in the 2-1 defeat to Walsall last weekend.
