Barnsley goalkeeper Heinz Muller could be sidelined for up to six months after sustaining knee ligament damage it has emerged. On Tuesday, the German limped through 75 minutes against Colchester but was injured accidentally in a fall after he punched away a cross.

The extent of the injury was more serious than first feared, and Muller said: "I'm devastated and close to tears. I asked to be substituted at half-time but we didn't have a reserve goalie.

"It's an injury in the right knee, something with the ligament. I will be out for at least the next six months.

"It is typical, the same thing happened when I was on my way up in Germany, but this is my worst injury ever and came at the most terrible time," he told the Sheffield Star.
