Fri 01 Feb, 04:15 PM

PAOK Salonika have announced the signing of former Portugal winger Sergio Conceicao, who has signed an 18-month contract with the Greek giants. The 34-year-old, who scored 12 goals in 56 appearances for his country, has will link up with Portuguese coach Fernandos Santos.

Having spent most of his career in Italy representing Parma, Internazionale and Lazio, Conceicao moved to Belgium to join Standard Liege in 2004 and spent three seasons at the club before joining Kuwait outfit Al Qadsiya in the summer.

Santos said: "He is a player that I know very well and I expect him to have an immediate impact.

"Conceicao can play on the left or right and in the middle. He didn't adapt to life in Kuwait and he was looking for a European club to continue his career.

"He has played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe and is very experienced. His age is not a negative factor. We need players with experience at the moment."

PAOK also brought in Serbian defender Goran Gavrancic from Dinamo Kiev and Moldovan forward Viorel Frunza from Romanian CFR Cluj on six-month loan deals before the January transfer window closed on Thursday.

PAOK, whose last league title success came in 1985, have struggled in recent seasons because of financial problems and inconsistent form.

Santos' men lie eighth in the 16-team Super League after 18 matches so far this season.
