Lyon moved back to the top of the Ligue 1 despite being held 1-1 by Saint Etienne at Stade Gerland.

Kevin Mirallas gave the visitors the lead after 50 minutes only for Juninho to equalise three minutes later.

Frederic Piquionne was sent off a minute later for the defending champions who are one point ahead of Bordeaux.

Bordeaux had earlier briefly gone top after a battling 2-2 draw at home with Lille.

Bordeaux dominated the first half and opened the scoring through David Bellion's close-range effort in the 17th minute.

Seventh-placed Lille came back into the game after the break.

They levelled three minutes after the restart when Ludovic Obraniak fired a shot into the far corner and went up 2-1 through Adil Rami who slipped the ball under keeper Ulrich Rame.

Bordeaux secured a point on 65 minutes thanks to a powerful header by France playmaker Yoann Gourcuff.

Olympique Marseille's hopes of challenging for the title dimmed when they were defeated 1-0 at Sochaux.

The only goal was scored midway through the first half by Turkish striker Mevlut Erding who rounded France international goalkeeper Steve Mandanda and pushed the ball into an empty net.

Marseille are fourth on 38 points, one behind Paris St Germain who beat Caen 2-0 on Saturday.

  3. It seems Lyon are trying their best NOT to be champions again. They have a chance to increase the distance to Bordeaux, by beating the side ranked third from bottom at home, and this is what they do? I could say the same about Inter Milan, they seem determinate in finishing second or third...

  4. I think it's time for some new blood running OM. Diouf and Anigo have had plenty of time and money to do something and have failed. There are many things that OM do well but given the support and the money they have to get players they should have been able to wrest the title from Lyon.
