League One - Smith attracted by stylish Dons
Alan Smith has revealed it was MK Dons' brand of stylish football that attracted him to the club.
Smith has joined the Dons on loan from Newcastle for the remainder of the season and the 31-year-old former Leeds and Manchester United player has even hinted that he could make the move a permanent one in the summer.
"You have feelings about places sometimes," Smith said. "The chairman and manager have a special feeling for this football club and when myself and my agent came down we both got that feeling as well.
"I've seen MK Dons play a few times this season and I've been very impressed with how Karl Robinson's teams set-up and how they play football, especially against QPR in the FA Cup.
"It's a football club which is building for the future and it was a decision which was so easy to make. As soon as you get belief about a place it's difficult to walk away, so fingers crossed that if things go well and we do get promoted something long-term can happen.
"This club has the potential, with or without me here, to get promoted this season. Looking beyond that you've seen how well the likes of Southampton, Brighton and Swansea have done once they went up, all trying to play football in the right way."

he could still return to LEEDS and play CONFERENCE LEAGUE football
Alan Smith was a great player till man u got their hands on him ,played him out of position and got his leg broke to boot, for his size he was one of the best target men around with a great first touch. Sadly yes i think his day has come and the slippery slope of the divisions beckons, but who knows there might be a spark still there.
1 honny smith is and always will be a top player he is much better than sum of the shi*e we have i 4 1 will miss him smb
jordy.hasbeens, time to change the record, you just sound so pathetic and bitter.
Newcasshole... Championship fodder at best.
wonder if he scores for the dons, never did for us,played nearly ninty matches( newcastle)
Is that Alan Smith in the photo? Not so sure.
He aint going nowhere in the summer...he will retire happy in the knowledge we have prepared him for it...
Nothing against him personally but what a costly signing.
His career at the top was over a long time ago but he's still managed to kick his heals in the reserves for £65,000 a week.
Five seasons and apart from a decent spell in the championship, he's been a total flop that nobody would take off our hands. When he's finished with us he'll be lucky to pick up anywhere near ten grand a week anywhere else, still more than he's worth.
I think he needs to put more effort into this loan spell than he ever gave us or he'll have very few options in the summer but if he does have to give it all up, we've given him a canny pension, more than £15mil all told!!
