Premier League - New stress fracture for Wilshere

Wed, 01 Feb 12:56:00 2012

Jack Wilshere has suffered a stress fracture of his right heel but Arsenal remain hopeful he will play this season.

Jack Wilshere - 0

The England midfielder broke down in training last week as he aimed to step up his recovery from a fractured right ankle.

An Arsenal statement said: "It is not accurate to state he has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

"The injury is in a different area to his previous surgery, and it will be reassessed in around two weeks time by our medical team and medical experts who have worked together throughout Jack’s recovery.

"This is a recognised complication of a complex rehabilitation process and, of critical importance, Jack’s initial injury is recovering well.

The injury comes just weeks after club doctors expressed amazement at the speed of Wilshere's recovery from the first injury, and it had been hoped he could play in February.

Wilshere has not played at all this season, and would need a run of games to stake his claim for a call-up to Fabio Capello's Euro 2012 squad.

The 20-year-old Tweeted: "I can confirm I have a stress fracture but it is not in the same area as my first injury which has healed very which I am happy about...

"I have developed a stress fracture in the heel now and I don't want to put any time scale on it as I do not know how long it will take..."

  1. #83 So you think if Wilshire was fit you'd be anywhere near the Super Spurs? I don't think so, Wilshire wouldn't get in our team he wouldn't even get on the bench. Only the rapist would make our team.

#86 "Wenger and Capello, two managers with "decent" track records in spotting talent/managing" you are joking right? Arsenal are sixth, eighteen points behind the leaders and have won nothing for seven years and don't look like winning anything for another seven and as for Capello, did you watch the World Cup in South Africa?

  2. Personally I hope he doesn't play this season, otherwise he'll get picked for England - and let have it right, he is the most overatted and over-hyped players since David Beckham. I can name at least 10 English midfield players as good or better than him - but of course they don't play for Arsenal and we all know the soccer media this Wenger and Arsenal are wonderful.......

  5. players nowadays are that finely tuned one little turn can cause a massive injury. maybe wengers obsession with diet and specific fitness is causing this. Arsenal players are young and wrapped up in cotton wool too much. before they start their careers in the prem. they should be sent on loan to the championship or league one/two so they can can knocked about a bit and toughen up. It sounds a little old school, but it works.

  6. totally agree with comments 71 and 73. However, David W.. the proud owner of comment no.77 has seemed to miss every game of top flight english football for the last 3 years. ( Or he might have a fraction of the knowledge that both Wenger and Capello, two managers with "decent" track records in spotting talent/managing, have. )

  7. Even players people don't know about are injured a la Conor Henderson, something's wrong there.

  9. @ (no.77 David W)-amazing that some people ( many people actually it seems, when it comes to football) are so stupid as to come up with comments like this. For example, if man utd are without rooney for a season and lose the tilte to man city by 5, 6 points or whatever,, is it wrong to say they might have won it if their BEST PLAYER had not been sidelined. or if David Silva gets injured next week and they lose the title by 5 or 6 points to utd, is it wrong for them to say it might have been different if THEIR best player wasnt injured for near half the season. Come on David. One of arsenals main problems right now is lack of creativity in midfield due to the loss of cesc and nasri. So if the most creative (and also aggressive) midfielder is missing the entire time.. of COURSE it makes a difference, u plonker.

tos out since November. Something is clearly amiss. All in a year, teams get just one of these a season AND IT TURNS INTO A CRISIS. The media are probably used to Arsenal's problems so dont portray our situation as a crisis because it has been happening for the last 3 years. We are in a non stop crisis, we have EVERY full back in our first team and reserves injured, and people say we use this as an excuse?

scoring goals. I reckon 6th or 7th place for us this season and again no trophies. I reckon Wenger will go in the summer the man surely cant think he is doing any good for the club, he just has a big head and wont listen to anyone.

  14. he was very good for us last year, so good infact he earned an england call up or a few, make of that what you will, but we Gooners know his presence in midifield would have made a BIG dif to our current position.

  15. He's not that good but if it gives you an excuse for losing I guess you'll use it. The real reason though is that Arsenal are where they are because that's how good they are.

  17. Roisin - I'm thinking the same, although M Utd have certainly suffered too. Maybe Arsenal's style invites more injury-suffering tackles? I'd guess Stoke suffer rather fewer.

Are the causes investigated somewhere centrally? Eduardo's was awful of course, but 4 full backs? Weird!

  18. Juust great, one of the few really good players we have is not available for the majority of the season. If we want to finish 4th, some of our players will have to play above their limits I am afraid. We dont have enough quality in the dressing room to get away with horrible start we had and the fact is that EPL is getting better every year, more competitive and Arsenal is getting more average. I just miss those times where we were fighting for the title and not the CL qualification, I mean what the hell happened to our team ? I know any team can go through a crisis but in this case it doesnt seem we have reached the trough yet, I will always support Arsenal but I am worried that the path we are on is not the right one.

  19. It seems to me that many Arsenal players have been cursed with injuries all the time. We had Van Persie, Diaby, Vermaelen, Sagna, Gibbs out for quite sometime and now it's Wilshere. I wonder who is next? No wonder the medical staffs are always busy at the Arsenal camp. We need to do something really special in order to minimise all the long term injuries. Unfortunately the longer list of injuries, the longer we have to wait for another trophy. These two are totally related to each other. Does Wenger realise this all the time? If he does, then why he doesn't buy enough players to back the others up and just rely on those younger and inexperienced players? Our depth of the squad is simply not as good as other top clubs. This also explains where we are at the table. It's sad but it is so true, Mr Wenger!

From AFC, on Wed 1 Feb 22:59
  20. I don't think there's a single part of that club that doesn't need questions asked about it. All the way from the board to the coaching staff to the manager. But sure, keep on ignoring it, stick to your excuses and watch Arsenal's decline continue.
