Ferguson hopeful over Pogba deal

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is still hopeful of retaining young midfielder Paul Pogba.

The 18-year-old was introduced for his Barclays Premier League debut in United's win over Stoke on Tuesday as Ferguson opted to give Pogba some valuable experience.

And Ferguson admitted he was impressed with his performance, telling the BBC: "Pogba did very well."

It was a notable move on the day Ravel Morrison quit for West Ham and comes at a time when United are still trying to persuade Pogba to sign a new contract.

Italian giants Juventus are among the clubs who have expressed an interest in the French teenager, whom Ferguson has previously advised not to follow the money trail because if he makes it at Old Trafford, Pogba will be a very wealthy young man.

The United boss confirmed talks were continuing and he was hopeful of a positive resolution.

"The boy has great talent and tremendous physique for an 18-year-old," he said. "You can't believe it.

"We are negotiating his contract at the moment.

"It is a bit complicated at the moment because he has changed his agent a couple of times.

"But the boy wants to stay, that is obvious. Hopefully we can get it done soon."

  1. Pogba should strickly follow SAF advice so that he should not fizzle out quickly like Mike Obi of cheal4sell.Rooney will certainly need that young chap to send him more crazy for goals

  2. He did well when he came on and looked dangerous, hope he comes good enough to start regularly he looks like he can offer something different in midfield, a viera in the making even.

  3. Pogba is going to be a good player if he progesses the way he is at the moment. He has more quality than Morrison and a better attitude to be a Utd player for years to come. He has the ability to be a 1st choice French National player. Morrison is a good player but just got very wrong attitude or very very poor advisors. As with countless players in the game at the moment no manager is like Sir Alex for getting the best out of young talent and unlike other teams and managers like Fergie says, if your good enough, your old enough. Lets not forget Ronaldo came to Utd as raw 18yr old talent, he was turned into 1 of the best players in the world today. If Pogba keeps playing how he is he will be a regular 1st team player very soon.

  4. I seriously don't know why United/Sir Alex wanted to keep Morrison...or did he? He is somewhat similar to Cleverley, that plays in somewhat in the position as Rooney. I just don't see a future in him....

Let's be honest. Pogba is way more talented/gifted than Morrison, most of all, plays way better than Morrison AT THE MOMENT!

About the French youngster following money trail is understandable, as he comes from a very poor family...but I think he keeps on improving to reach the status he desires = success and wealth...unlike Morrison, who is already overrating himself, you can see with his progress...and the reason why United let him go (come on, United are rich/big enough, offering more than West Ham).
