Toon punish wasteful Rovers

Wed, 01 Feb 22:22:11 2012

Newcastle climbed to fifth place in the Barclays Premier League after a 2-0 victory over Blackburn that left Steve Kean's strugglers rueing a host of missed chances.

The visitors went ahead in the 12th minute when Ryan Taylor's speculative 25-yard effort took a wicked deflection off Scott Dann and it went down as an own goal.

But Rovers dominated the rest of the first half, with Danny Simpson clearing off the line and Leon Best heading against his own bar before David Dunn saw his penalty saved by Tim Krul.

The second half was a quieter affair but Anthony Modeste, Scott Dann and Mauro Formica all missed good chances to earn Rovers what would have been a deserved share of the spoils.

Gabriel Obertan rubbed salt into the wound by scoring his first Newcastle goal by ending a quick break with the sort of clinical finish Rovers had been so sorely lacking.

  2. Mr Fox, I'm struggling to figure out what rattled you but no offence intended and anyone with Jonny's seal of approval gets mine too. Bannister and Barrister are equally as thick but one is more handy to have alongside you in the courtroom unless there are stairs.

  3. Mr Fox, Beefy, can I just jump in before things get out of hand
Mr Fox, Beefy is a Mag and responding to mackems in general, it's not a personal attack on you, he get's the same thing back from mackems.
Beefy, Mr Fox is a true gent, He loves football and rarely if ever joins in any of the nastiness and calls a spade a spade and is to be respected.
I'm sure you two can get on and exchange good craic so it would be a shame if you got off on the wrong foot so give it a try lads!!!!

  11. agree about Lovenkrands, he creates things at least

From David H, on Thu 2 Feb 17:08
  12. The way I see it my Blackburn fans, is that there are 8 "achievable" wins for you between now and the end of the season. That would put you on 42 points and pretty much guarantee safety.
    These games are:
    QPR Away
    Villa Home
    Wolves Away
    Sunderland Home
    Bolton Away
    WBA Home
    Norwich Home
    Wigan Home
This means you need 3 points in Feb, Max points in March (12), 6 points April and 3 in May.
I believe that if you get beat in any of these matches then its going to be tough, but if you get beat twice you are down. That is assuming that you dont pull off a shock and beat Man U at home or Man City Chelsea or Spurs away. I dont think you will get anything from Swansea either.

    Just my 2 cents

  14. thank god we won that game!!

the best thing that could have happened was Obertan scoring that goal will do wonders for his confidence!!

Playing with Ameobi is like a man down really need to get him out of the team he just cant even run about now would rather play Lovenkrands than him to be honest
