Cardiff chief ready for big week

Tue 01 Apr, 08:15 AM

Cardiff boss Dave Jones believes the next week could be crucial to the club's season as their Championship and FA Cup campaigns come to a head. The Bluebirds host West Brom in the Championship on Tuesday night before they head off to Wembley to face Barnsley in an FA Cup semi-final.

After that Cardiff travel to Ipswich next Wednesday and these three fixtures could well define whether their season is a success or not.

"The lads have talked about how we have a massive week coming up," said Jones.

"We've got West Brom, the semi-final and then Ipswich as well. If we can get three wins, all of a sudden the season is going to take off."

Meanwhile Baggies boss Tony Mowbray admits he has a difficult balancing act to perform in terms of keeping his players fresh and yet still getting the best out of his team as the fixtures pile up.

West Brom are also at Wembley, facing Premier League side Portsmouth in their FA Cup semi-final, and Mowbray accepts he faces some difficult choices.

"Obviously you have to have half an eye on Saturday and which players can play at the intensity they have to," he said.

"Some players, if they play pretty much every game over the last month, the demands start becoming difficult as we found out over the last couple of weeks when we have picked up some injuries.

"It is your job to look at how many minutes on the pitch players have played and what sort of intensity levels they have worked at."
