Jesus Ramirez has been appointed Mexico coach on a temporary basis following the sacking of Hugo Sanchez.Ramirez, who remains in charge of the youth squads, takes over after the Mexican Football Federation sacked Sanchez for failing to lead the Under-23s to this year's Olympic Games.

And Ramirez is aware the pressure is on him to turn the team's fortunes around.

He told Radio Formula: "I will face this challenge seriously, dreaming about everything we can do here.

"This opportunity means big responsibility because our country is behind the national team. A lot of people are looking forward to winning and I hope we can do that."

The coach is determined to stake his claim to become the permanent boss of the country.

"It would be a dream come true for me (to become permanent coach)," he said. "Now I have this chance in the upcoming matches and I'll keep working hard to achieve that."

Mexico have three upcoming games scheduled; they meet China on April 16 at Seattle's Qwest Field, Argentina on June 4 at San Diego's Qualcomm and Peru four days later at Chicago's Soldier Field.

They kick off their 2010 World Cup Qualifying campaign on June 21 in the second round against Belize.

The Mexican Football Federation have not set a deadline for the appointment of a permanent coach.
