Premier League - Anichebe haunted by Nolan foul

Eurosport - Wed, 01 Apr 15:51:00 2009

Victor Anichebe has said he feels "sick" every time he thinks of the Kevin Nolan tackle that has put him out for the season.

FOOTBALL 2008-09 Premier League - Newcastle United's Kevin Nolan fouls Everton's Victor Anichebe - 0

It is six weeks since the tackle by Newcastle's Nolan damaged Anichebe's knee ligaments, but it clearly plays on the 20-year-old Everton striker's mind.

He said: "The more and more I think about it, it makes me sick really. But then I realise I am quite lucky because on another day I could have broken my leg and that might have been the end of my career."

Anichebe is now looking forward to playing again next season.

He added: "The injury is healing all right although I am still hobbling along.

"I have got a brace on my leg and I can't really put any weight on it. But the wound is healing and everything seems to be going to plan."

  1. Perhaps he didn't want to play against Bolton the following week and like any good pro got himself sent off. But the way he did it should have got him a longer ban......

  2. should be banned for life

  3. "Class tackle" Just what kind of sicko are you pal? You may not like Victor Anichebe, I'm sure your not alone, but the tackle was definitely sick and should have resulted in a long ban for Nolan..

  7. comment 8 i agree but the offending player should have to pay for the wage and medical bill .... that would send the message! and stop the horrible tackles.

  8. I agree with Graham P comment 2 but I would go farther.
If a player has to leave the field for treatment due to a foul tackle the guilty party must leave as well, why should a team gain an advantage through foul play.
If the injured player has to be substituted the offender must be substituted. Offending players clubs should be responsible for the wages and medical costs of the players they injure.
Lets stamp out foul plat not stamp out players careers.

  10. I was the worst tackle I had see all season. So glad that Anichebe leg was'nt in bits. Still find it hard to watch the reply. We cant go on seeing tackles like this. These sort of things Need quickly stop before a great players career is ended in a liftime of pain. Its all down to the FIA to put together a panel to look at such tackles and deal with it heavely with ban's. No mater what the ref's report or punishment is at the time. To think players get Yellow carded for taking there shirt off when scoring a goal or throwing the ball away gets the same punishment as this tackle did is Wrong. I'am not a Everton fan but a Man Utd fan. But Hate to see tackles like this anywere in football.

  14. Here's an idea that will never be used. Ban players guilty of these types of challenges for the same period the injured player is out of the game

From Graham P, on Wed 1 Apr 1:20PM
