Alexander wants reality check

Thu 01 May, 07:00 PM

Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander has warned expectant fans not to get carried away as they look ahead to next season with renewed optimism.Alexander has masterminded the Cheshire club's move away from the relegation zone since taking over from Ian Brightwell in late February.

Five wins from their last nine games going into this weekend's final-day trip to Chester has encouraged hopes of a possible play-off push next season.

However, Alexander said: "I think it is important we don't get too carried away and that we adopt a sense of realism.

"The end of the season is always a bit of a watershed in that what has gone is often forgotten and sights are immediately set a lot higher.

"There's nothing wrong in that but it shouldn't be forgotten that the club has finished near the bottom of this division for the last three seasons."
