Crouch: Support will be crucial

Thu 01 May, 12:15 PM

Southampton chairman Leon Crouch has urged the St Mary's faithful to roar their side to safety when they face Sheffield United on Sunday.Saints will kick off on the final day of the season in the relegation zone and in danger of dropping into League One for the first time in 48 years.

Nigel Pearson's side need to beat the play-off chasing Blades and hope at least one result elsewhere goes their way, and Crouch has called for everyone to play their part to ensure they fulfil their side of the bargain.

"Our fans have been magnificent this season. They are always there when we need them and I know they will be right behind us on Sunday," said Crouch.

"We need one last monumental effort from them on Sunday afternoon because they can make a huge difference.

"We need them right behind the team to drive them on for the full 90 minutes, regardless of scores here or elsewhere."
