Fiorentina forward Adrian Mutu insists he has "nothing to prove" to the British football audience in the UEFA Cup semi-final against Rangers.Mutu left the Premier League in shame after a failed drugs test while a player at Chelsea but has rebuilt his reputation as one of the top strikers in Serie A.
"I have nothing to prove to the British people," he said.
"That's all in the past, my focus is on Fiorentina and Thursday's game."
Mutu could make Fiorentina history if he scores a seventh goal in European competition in only one season.
He was not influential in the opening leg goalless draw at Ibrox but in the UEFA Cup he has arguably been the most valuable player for coach Cesare Prandelli with his six goals.
"I hope to be crucial," he said. "Everyone is looking forward to a good game. We are ready.
"The opportunity to reach a final gives the team a big boost.
"We can't wait to play it."
When asked if he was playing the best football of his career, Mutu replied: "I feel I am 90% there but I can still improve. Hopefully, the best is yet to come."
Fiorentina have a proud history with many of the game's greats having worn the Viola colours, including Gabriel Batistuta of Argentina and current Italy striker Luca Toni.
Mutu knows if the Florence-based outfit can win against Rangers and go on to lift the UEFA Cup in Manchester on May 13, he and his team-mates will always be remembered.
"This is the game that will allow us to reach our dream," he said. "The dream that we have had since the start of the season.
"We don't know if we will get there but at least we will try.
"We know the importance of this game."
