Phillips aiming for top gong

Thu 01 May, 05:15 PM

Kevin Phillips has his sights set on finishing the season as the Championship's top scorer ahead of West Brom's game of the season at QPR.Phillips has scored 22 league goals and currently lies joint-second with Sheffield United's James Beattie in the race for the division's golden boot award - just one goal behind Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

Phillips believes he would top the chart had it not been for the knee injury he suffered in November that ruled him out for six weeks.

The 34-year-old has not scored in the last four matches and is keen to break that duck at Loftus Road on Sunday.

"I want to play at QPR and get on the score sheet. It would be a massive bonus for me to finish as top goal scorer," Phillips told the club's official website. "I am disappointed I am not head of the league scoring stats.

"Obviously I missed that time out through injury and I haven't scored for four games, which I am disappointed about. Even a couple of goals in those games would have seen me clear at the top."
