Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie says Linvoy Primus' lack of action this season will not stop the club from offering him a new deal.Primus has not played for Pompey this season due to a knee injury and his current deal expires in the summer.
The 34-year-old has questioned whether he will still be at the club next season but Storrie has revealed that discussions will begin in the near future.
Primus joined Portsmouth on a free transfer from Reading in 2000 and Storrie has heaped praise on the long-serving centre-back.
"We will be looking at the players who are out of contract at some point over the next few weeks," Storrie told The News.
"We will certainly look after Linvoy - he has been a great servant to the club and we will be sitting down with him as and when the time is right.
"Linvoy is certainly one who deserves to remain with the club.
"We haven't met with anybody regarding new contracts yet, but my personal opinion is he is one player we will definitely support as a club.'
Storrie accepts that there are more pressing concerns as Pompey continue to build up for the FA Cup final and challenge for a place in the top six of the Premier League.
He said: "We'll be looking at all of these issues when we get the time. It's been pretty busy with things like FA Cup finals to prepare for."
