Stewart: Millers may face deduction

Thu 01 May, 04:15 PM

Tony Stewart revealed he expects Rotherham to incur a points penalty next season after copying Leeds' controversial exit from administration.Local businessman Stewart, of Rotherham-based company ASD Lighting plc, hopes to assume control of the club on Friday after emerging as administrator Jeremy Bleazard's favoured bidder from an initial five candidates to take control of the cash-strapped Millers.

He will do so without completing a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) - the same move that led to Leeds being docked 15 points at the start of this season.

But Stewart believes it is the correct course of action for Rotherham and will enable the club to move forward next season with a clean slate.

"I think we will lose points at the start of next season, whatever happens, and I have been advised that both legally and financially that this is the right step to take," Stewart told the Yorkshire Post. "I would love to have been able to pay off the creditors because they have been the fall guys, but we would not have got the (CVA) agreement accepted.

"I am not a (Chelsea owner) Roman Abramovich figure and I am a novice in the football market, but I am an experienced businessman who wants this club to go places."
