Leon Eurocup drive for former BTCC ace.
Having been forced to give up his drive in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship for the 2008 campaign, Eoin Murray has announced that his will switch to the SEAT Leon Eurocup for the coming campaign.
The former Quest Racing driver has signed with the Italian-based Team PRS Group for the new season, which will see him take part in races at circuits including Valencia, Pau and Brands Hatch as part of WTCC race weekends.
The Leon Eurocup is heavily backed by SEAT Europe, with SEAT Sport providing a full works drive in the WTCC for the following round to each driver that wins a round of the SEAT Leon Eurocup.
The series will be held over six double header weekends with points from five rounds to count so allowing for a championship contender to take up the WTCC drive while not jeopardising their Eurocup aspirations. The overall winner of the Leon Eurocup will then drive for SEAT Sport in the European Touring Car Championship at the end of the season.
"I'm delighted to have this opportunity to return to Europe and hopefully with the chance to drive for the very successful SEAT WTCC team," he said. "We were very much underfunded in the BTCC but I achieved a long time ambition by competing in this series and I think I did a good job considering the circumstances.
"I have proven in the past to be quick in equal machinery and I've won a European Championship with PRS Group in the past. They are a really professional team and I am looking forward to working with them again."
