Brit breaks keep-up world record

Eurosport - Fri, 01 May 16:33:00 2009

A British man set a new world record by continuously keeping up a football for 24 hours at an event in London.

FOOTBALL 2009 Dan Magness breaks world keep-up record with new time of 24 hours at Covent Garden in London - 0

Dan Magness, 25, completed an estimated 250,000 touches of the ball to break the record inside a large transparent plastic cube in the piazza of Covent Garden.

Magness, of Milton Keynes, said after breaking the record: "I feel on top of the world right now. There were times during the night when I started to wonder if I could pull it off, but I managed to dig deep and keep going. I have just fulfilled a lifetime ambition and it feels great, but I'm definitely ready for my bed now."

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool defender John Scales, ambassador for PlayStation Freestylers who supported the event, said: "You can not under estimate what an unbelievable achievement this is by Dan. To have the stamina is one thing, but for him to be able to concentrate over such a long period of time is what makes this World Record such a mind-blowing feat."

Magness, who completed an intensive six-week training programme leading up to the event, added: "I really hope the record will help inspire a new generation to get involved with freestyle football."

  6. To Byzas 566, Some of us prefer to be called British, I happen to be a proud mix of English & Irish, with a substantial part of the family living in Scotland, and I was born on St. Davids day, so I guess I'm a Brit.

However what an achievement, heck I can only manage a couple of minutes at my very best, well done Dan,

There were times during the night when I started to wonder if I could pull it off, ........ but I'm definitely ready for my bed now."

What a nice bit of British humbleness and honesty a trait we are fast losing as we become so influenced by the American hype and exaggeration culture.

And on a personal note, Its nice to see a GINGA Brother Do it!

152: He was interviewed on Breakfast TV yesterday (BBC) just before he started and was asked the same question. Apparently he was allowed short 'comfort breaks' but I would be interested to know if they happened at fixed times of could he take one when he fancied - e.g. if he thought he was losing control!!! ;-)))

I wouldn't put his achievement up there with world peace or even completing the London Marathon but its quite a feat.
