Premier League - Dunn injury blow, Tugay to quit

Eurosport - Fri, 01 May 13:04:00 2009

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed that David Dunn will miss the remaining four games of the season after an operation on his Achilles, and that Tugay will leave the club in the summer.

It means Dunn, who stepped off the substitutes' bench in the victory against Wigan on Sunday, will sit out the Premier League match at Manchester City on Saturday.

Allardyce said: "David has not been able to overcome the pain he has suffered in recent weeks, so we have had to make the big decision to let him have an operation."

Allardyce also confirmed that veteran Blackburn playmaker Tugay will leave Ewood Park at the end of the season.

It will bring the curtain down on the 38-year-old's career at the club, spanning eight seasons, after he arrived from Rangers for £1.3 million.

Allardyce said: "We will say farewell at the end of the season and thank you very much for what you have done for Blackburn."

He added: "Certainly if we remain in the Premier League, Tugay can bow out gracefully after playing at the top level most of the time.

"He has had a fantastic career. But at 38 and the ever-increasing demands of the Premier League, certainly in a physical sense, it means you cannot go on forever."
