Captain Julien Baudet is a doubt for Crewe's must-win final game of the season at home to League One champions Leicester.
The defender is receiving treatment on the ankle injury that forced him off in the 4-3 defeat at Stockport last time out.
Elsewhere, young keeper Adam Legzdins has returned from his loan spell with Weymouth and will provide competition for Stuart Tomlinson for the number one jersey as John Ruddy has gone back to Everton after playing the final game of his loan spell at Edgeley Park.
Only a victory is good enough to keep Crewe up, although results elsewhere involving Carlisle and Brighton could still condemn Alex to football in the bottom tier for the first time in 15 years.
