Premier League - Fergie praises Glazer 'balls'

Eurosport - Mon, 02 Jun 11:14:00 2008

Alex Ferguson claims the Glazer family, the owners of Manchester United, would rather Cristiano Ronaldo was left on the sidelines than sold to Real Madrid.

United have threatened to report Real to world governing body FIFA over what they claim are attempts to unsettle Ronaldo by the Spanish giants.

Real have repeatedly made known their desire to sign the Portuguese winger but United are firm in their conviction the player will not be sold.

Ferguson claims the Glazers are equally unimpressed with Real and says they would keep the player even if a hypothetical situation arose where he refused to play for United.

The Scot said: "I've had a couple of meetings with the Glazers.

"Their attitude is, 'To hell with them'. They'd sit a player in the stand, I'm telling you, absolutely no doubt about it, just to prove a point. Not to give in to these people.

"They've got balls, I can tell you. I've been delighted with them in that respect."

The Glazers took over United in an £800 million deal in the summer of 2005. Their arrival caused huge ructions among fans due to the debt they placed on the club.

Ferguson, however, has been delighted with the support of the Americans since their regime began.

"They've been good to this club, believe me," he added. "They have been brilliant owners."

  1. Take the 100 mil on the table dump him in second rated Spanish football. Ronaldo would soon learn that Man U makes him good, its not the other way around. We were great long before he was about and will be great long after him... Glory Glory Man United......

  8. I've been a United fan all my life. When i heard we were been bought by Americans i was appalled,i thought it was the end of life as we know it.But a big surprise was in for all of us,they've allowed Sir Alex to do his job and put their money (albeit loaned)where their mouth is.The situation with Ronaldo has shown how they care for the club.Well done. John, Chesterfield.
