Premier League - Liverpool 'won't offload Alonso'

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has reiterated his intention to retain Xabi Alonso in his squad for next season.

The Spanish midfielder has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, however Benitez stressed there is no deal in place and has questioned whether Alonso, contracted until 2012, would even be interested in a move.

Benitez said: "The situation is clear, we do not want to sell our best players and that includes Xabi.

"He had a very good season for us and can be an important player in the future. There is no agreement with Real and we want him to be part of our plans going forward.

"Xabi himself told our club magazine only two weeks ago that he was looking forward to his sixth season as a Liverpool player. Why should he want to leave now?"

  3. i think we should sell Alonso as he is to injury­ prone,bring in Owen as Torres as trouble with is­ hamstring keep Lucas also wile were at it sack Benitez­ as i don't think we will win anything with him as­ manager, i think we should bring in Sven G Erickson to­ manage the pool
    as he will bring in trophies and­ Quality players, i think also we should let Jamie­ carragher go as hes old and past it and is a bully,if­ we don't do these things i think we will finish­ forth or fifth next season,i think the winner of the­ premier league next season will be Chelsea followed by­ Man u second . Deep down the football fans at­ Liverpool (of which there are many know the truth). He­ cost you the league xmas and new year, had the chance­ to surge ahead, yet you failed.
    Next season, sorry you­ wont get there, you have 2 truly great players in­ Gerrard and Torres, the rest, sorry they are just not­ good enough.

  6. Now you are talking, Benitez. Alomso is not one player­ to dispense of lightly. He is partly the reason­ Liverpool made Utd sweat throughout the season last­ season. I have little doubt the team will do even­ better this time around, especially with Xabi in the­ team. Benites should go out and do like other top­ managers are doing; secure at least two world class­ strikers and a defender. Options are Samuel Et'oo­ whom Barca are willing to offload, and Carlos Tevez.­ Can you not see david Villa, or that boy from Ecoardo­ who is called Benitez.

    Raffa is a an Idiot and he will bring nothing but pain­ to Liverpool.
    Within 4 weeks Alonso will be gone, I­ dont care what Raffa said Alonso will be at Madrid in­ June/July
