Charteris replaces injured Davies

Wales have called up Dragons lock Luke Charteris to the squad for Saturday's Test against the USA after Blues second row Bradley Davies was revealed to have a chipped bone in his neck.

Davies won his third international cap last Saturday in the 32-23 victory over Canada in Toronto but was forced off with the injury late in the second half.

The lock will now be ruled out for four to six weeks and caretaker head coach Robin McBryde said: "We are all disappointed for Bradley, who played well against Canada and he is a young man with a big future at this level."

He added: "Hopefully he has learned from the experiences he has had already and he will remain with us in Chicago to help out behind the scenes and continue that learning process.

"He is up and about and well in himself and we wish him a speedy recovery as he looks to get back on the pitch in time for the beginning of the season with the Blues."

Charteris comes into the squad having been named in the initial Welsh training squad for the tour.

But instead of travelling to North America he stayed at home to help the Dragons secure a Heineken Cup berth in the play-off victory over Calvisano in Italy last Friday.

"Luke has arrived in Chicago, he is a more than able replacement and we are expecting him to slot seamlessly back into the system," McBryde said.

  1. Biggar should be 10, he is the future, Robinson has gone to England so should be out of consideration.
