Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins is hoping to have defender Kenny Milne available for pre-season training.
The 29-year-old suffered a critical knee injury early in the recent season and managed just 156 minutes of action for the Iron as a result.
Milne was set to make a comeback in January only to discover the surgery he had undergone had not been successful.
"Losing Kenny was a big blow and having him fit again this summer will be just like signing a new player" Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
"The surgeon is happy with the progress that Kenny is making and he will continue to work during the summer."
