Moyes sticking with Toffees

Mon, 01 Jun 08:12:46 2009

David Moyes remains committed to the Everton cause despite an admission of interest from Celtic.

The former Hoops star has been tipped as a potential replacement for Gordon Strachan at Parkhead.

"There may well have been an inquiry from Celtic but that doesn't interest me," said Moyes. "I am not tempted to take any steps. At the moment I am the Everton manager. I am a really loyal person."

Following his side's FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea on Saturday, he added: "I am also really ambitious. I will make sure the chairman stays ambitious and the club remains ambitious. We can't stop.

"After this I will have a holiday and then try to bring in one or two new players."

It is only four years since Everton did manage to smash the glass ceiling that separates the top four from the rest.

Unfortunately, that campaign was distressingly brief. Since then, the established order has remained in tact, despite efforts by Tottenham and Aston Villa in particular to break it.

"The gap is there," reflected Moyes.

"People should be hoping someone breaks in because it would alter the whole dynamics of football.

"If it is going to keep being money, money, money, something is going to go wrong in the future."

You'll need to explain yourself further.

  3. Couldn't agree with Alex F more! I am an Evertonian and still proud to be one after Saturday's match. We put up a good fight and were by no means humiliated. As well, not many defeated teams in a cup final would go round and congratulate the winning team the way David Moyes and the players did. They held their heads high and were very dignified.

I think its a big relief for Everton that Moyes is staying. I think we're really near to some amazing wins such as the FA Cup but we have to be patient, these things don't happen over night xx

  6. He has done a fantastic Job he is a proper manager and the Everton chairman is a fan of his club
It is sad that they have some money but in these billion dollar owners days not enough
I would like to congratulate them on a great effort on Saturday I thought they all worked incredibly hard to win against what in the end were insurmountable odds
But the substitutions that could be made showed the financial muscles that Chelsea have they bring on the German Captain and Everton bring on a young 21 yr old who has come through their academy
In the end I thought chelsea were all round just a strong team that powered their way to the cup in the end but I do not think Everton were disgraced and the whole team gave all they had and if you are a fan of that club you can ask no more of your team
