Neill could Hammer out deal

Mon 01 Jun, 10:23 PM

West Ham captain Lucas Neill has rejected the terms of a new contract offer but has not ruled out staying with the club.

The Australian, who joined West Ham from Blackburn in January 2007, is due to reach the end of his current deal at the end of June.

Neill's agent Darren Jackson indicated interest from other clubs in the 31-year-old defender, but confirmed an extension to his stay at West Ham remained an option, telling Sky Sports News: "The last offer was declined because Lucas didn't feel it reflected his value as a player and captain. Negotiations have been amicable and we hope we can still reach an agreement."

He added: "The door remains open for West Ham and Lucas. Obviously the longer it goes on, the more likely it's not going to happen.

"There has been other interest from clubs in England and in Europe but it's still very early stages. Lucas is hopeful something can be agreed with West Ham."

  1. Get rid of him he's @#$% and can't defend. Zola will be better off without him we have other good defenders anyway and he's not one of them. Parker should be captain

  2. On yer bike Neill - too slow, too fat, too old and too expensive
Sell him and get our Academy boy Glen Johnson back
then WH would have two attacking full backs with Glen on right and Llunga on the left
Then we'd show the PL what real football is all about COYI

  4. Looks like I'm the only one here that thinks Neill is worth keeping if a reasonable contract can be agreed. The only bad thing I've got to say about him is that he's a bit on the slow side. Other than that I think he's played well this season. He's not actually after a pay rise, but obviously hasn't agreed to take as big a pay cut as West Ham would like.
If he does go, we won't be getting any money for him. It's not like we are going to have much cash to spend this summer anyway, so we could do without having to waste a load trying to get a decent right back when the priority has got to be to get another Centre Forward in.

  11. have felt all along very overrated, we have such good strong talent in this position with Collins/Upson/Tomkins etc get rid of him and spend the money on a quality striker.

  13. Agree with Nanook, I never felt he was worth the money he is getting. He's just in it for the money not because he loves football. He's over-rated and always get pulled out of position, we have conceaded so many goals through him being out of position or not being able to pick up players.

  14. I agree he is getting on and we need a younger more passionate hopefully home-grown player

  16. Let this money grabbing SH&^%T go, he only came to the Hammers for money, and now he wants more of it, get someone in who want to be here, and not someone who is trying to hold the club to ransom.
