Newcastle urged to listen to fans

Mon 01 Jun, 03:09 PM

Newcastle United Supporters Club have urged the Magpies to listen to the fans following owner Mike Ashley's decision to put the club up for sale for a second time.

Ashley revealed at the weekend he was looking to sell his 100% stake as soon as possible following Newcastle's "catastrophic" relegation to the Coca-Cola Championship.

Ashley was the subject of a bitter backlash by fans following Kevin Keegan's departure as manager for a second time last September. That prompted the sportswear tycoon to put the club up for sale but he could not find a suitable buyer.

Now Newcastle, who have yet to secure the services of manager Alan Shearer on a long-term contract, must prepare to begin a new era in the second tier.

A statement from NUSC read: "The end of the Ashley era means lessons learned and opportunities for the future. We believe one of Mr Ashley's fundamental errors was to fail to listen to the fans and we believe that the fans are now a fundamental part of a positive solution to the current issue of direction of the club.

"The fans are an important 'constant' and they will make this club attractive to potential buyers. Newcastle United Supporters Club hopes that any future owners will see the value of engaging with fans at the earliest opportunity to ensure that Newcastle United learns from the mistakes of the past and builds a brighter future."

  1. AS a newcastle fan, i think this is Karma and we deserve this, the club has lost it's integrity and acts for the wrong reasons. Freddy Shepherd says he is a fan and has the club's interests at heart but i think alot of his decisions were rash and ill conceived, espeically the sacking of Sir Bobby Robson. The club has never had a manager of his reputation or standing in the game and we sack him 3 or 4 games into a new season even when we had started the previous season excalty the same way then and gone on to finish in the top 5, souness came in and where did we finish? 13th. excellant what an improvement! the club has never been the same since then chopping and changing managers at the drop of a hat.

  7. heyup hutch/rabbit,
you reckon e,like aeiou, freddie perhaps, well thats shearer out of the way,you know what!the only way to get rid of the liabilities is administration, nobody in their right mind would take on the liabilities at newcastle.
freddie will buy the club for £10 quids, turf out everything including the overated players, nufc will be reborn.
And then a hard hard slog, the fans will keep nufc alive, but glory and honours remain perhaps somewherein the future.
the dedication of the toon fans is well renowned, they have been used and abused by the glory hunters, and most of all by those whoes only objective is to make money,at the fans honourable expense and dedication.Granny

  9. You want me to predict the members of a consortium? How about I predict the name of the consortium will have at least one letter 'e' in it.
OK so you pedict the club is unsaleable and will go into administration and Shearer will get no money. Let's see who's right, if I am - be prepared to have your nose well and truly rubbed in it.
Try to avoid pointing out spellings you believe to be wrong. If I go through your spellings and grammatical irregularities I really will be flogging a dead horse.

  10. hutch/predictions.
1 Shearer will be appointed Manager after or just before a consortium buys the club
    2 Revamp of team
3 The first few games will be shaky but then they will start winning reguarly
4 They will return to Premiership the following season
?which cosortium do you have in mind.
?you mean revamp the same team.
?you reckon the first few games will be shaky, with this lot.
?premiership highly unlikely, there are some hungry prepared teams out there.
    my prediction is,
toon is unsaleable for the very reasons you state, morelike administration.
shearer will not get any cash for players, and so his dreams and yours are not likely to transpire.
you are flogging a dead horse,
by the way "reguarly"is spelt regularily.
look forward to your next vision.granny.

  11. Nice and easy that one Mr Clean. You say no-one wants these players? Just watch them get snapped up before the season starts. To lots of clubs anybody with Premiership experience is worth having if you can get them cheap. You worry far too much on our behalf. Where are your predictions?

  12. heyup hutch,
what you gonna do with the 15 nonces on 50k plus guaranteed whom nobody wants.
whats that 750k per week, how many paying fans does that come too, shearer on past performance 250k permatch, what do you say 1mill per week, without the rest, lets say 60mill per annum.
how much revenue is available for full house toon per week then, ille let you do that bit ok?.

  13. Always willing to talk football Mr Impactclean - Let's have some predictions from you as well and then we can see who gets closest.
My predictions for Newcastle are as follows:
1 Shearer will be appointed Manager after or just before a consortium buys the club
    2 Revamp of team
3 The first few games will be shaky but then they will start winning reguarly
4 They will return to Premiership the following season

I don't feel I'm wasting cash watching Newcastle any more than I did when I paid for my son to be part of his local football team or when England are playing. I will continue to support, come what may.

fanpower eh!let them make the important decisions.the owner and manager should first ask the fans whether or not to purchase a certain player.i think the fan club like the rest have completely lost the plot, were back to keegan again.
what do you reckon hutch,by the way couldnt quite understand your rant at no 2.
