Peterborough United have placed star striker Aaron McLean on the transfer list after the deadly marksman handed in a request to leave.Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has spent much of the time since Posh won promotion to League One in May trying to strike a deal to keep the 33-goal striker, but McLean has not co-operated and on Tuesday asked to be put up for sale.
"I offered Aaron the most lucrative contract in the history of Peterborough United Football Club and Aaron has responded by putting in a transfer request this morning (Tuesday)," MacAnthony said in a statement on the club's official website.
"We have therefore reluctantly placed Aaron McLean on the transfer list and as stated before, any interested parties will have to pay the club £3million up front - plus various add-ons and a sell-on clause for the transfer of his registration.
"As far as I'm concerned, if we do not get the asking price then Aaron will work out the remainder of his Peterborough contract until 2011."
Director of football Barry Fry added: "Darren Ferguson and the chairman have bent over backwards in trying to resolve this situation for the benefit of all parties and Aaron has rejected all our offers."
