Steve Coppell believes his relegated Reading side will be seen as a "target" for Championship clubs when the new season gets underway. The Royals enjoyed two seasons of top-flight football before their demotion in May, and Coppell is well aware their new opponents will attempt to step up their game against his side.
"We are a target now - as a relegated team we will be used as a yardstick," Coppell told the club's official website.
"Certainly in the first quarter of the season, everyone will be judging themselves when they play against us.
"The three teams who have come down are being put up on pegs, waiting to be knocked off.
"In those first 11 games a lot of clubs will be making the extra effort to show they are capable of matching us or beating us. We are aware of that."

Steve Coppell is perfectly correct in that ex-premier league teams will be seen as the teams to beat. But what an opportuity Reading have! With a quality manager who knows what it takes to win the championship, all he needs is the funds and the availability of quality players, to bounce straight back up.
Please give him the money.
