Championship - Irvine rejects West Brom

Eurosport - Wed, 01 Jul 10:44:00 2009

Alan Irvine will not be leaving Preston North End to take charge at West Brom, his club announced.

FOOTBALL Preston boss Alan Irvine, who is determined to hang on to his key players and add to his squad to launch a promotion push - 0

North End chairman Derek Shaw announced the news on Tuesday morning after confirming a clause in the Scot`s contract had allowed him to talk to the Baggies.

Shaw told the club website: "Over the weekend I was approached by West Bromwich Albion. Sometimes it is very difficult to give a running commentary to our supporters via the media. I had to discuss things on Monday morning with our lawyers.

"Alan was given permission to speak to West Brom while he was away on holiday, but he has chosen to remain as Preston's manager.

"We are extremely pleased, but I had to comply with the terms of the contract, which is extremely common in the modern day management contract. This is nothing unique to Preston North End."

He added: "I know Alan and his representative did have some talks, but I believe Alan did not meet them face to face and he has chosen to remain at Preston which we are extremely pleased about."

  12. Does'nt say a lot for us if he does'nt want to leave Preston. So Mr Peace, who are you going to turn too now? It will have to be a manager that has a shoestring budget to work with no doubt, and by the way, who's idea was it to buy Cox from Swindon when we have no manager. Strange that! Why dont you coax Curbishley at least you will get some loyalty. As for Marklaura60's comment, who do you support? You obviously have no concept of promotion or relegation and BOING BOING BOING BOING.
