"We have reached an agreement with Derby County of England for the transfer of Emanuel Villa, who will arrive (in Mexico) on Tuesday to undergo a medical and sign a contract," Cruz Azul said.

Villa, 27, only scored two Championship goals last season and three in 17 appearances during the second half of Derby's ill-fated 2007-08 Premier League campaign.

He has played in Mexico before for Atlas and Tecos UAG, who he left to join the Rams in January 2008.

Villa previously played for Huracan, Atletico Rafaela and Rosario Central in his home country.

Mexico's Apertura championship starts on the last weekend of July.
