Ferrari has rubbished speculation that Fernando Alonso is to be unveiled as one of the Scuderia's two drivers for 2010 on the Friday of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, despite reports that the team's annual end-of-season spectacular is to be held in Spain.
Spanish newspaper Diario AS has reported that the double F1 World Champion is to be announced as part of the Maranello-based outfit's challenge until at least 2014 on 11 September, though which of the two present incumbents - 2008 championship runner-up Felipe Massa and 2007 title-winner Kimi Raikkonen - would make way for the man from Oviedo remains unclear.
The likelier candidate is Raikkonen: both he and Massa remain under contract until the end of 2010, but the Finn's commitment and long-term future in the sport has been brought in to question by his recent forays into rallying and decision to drive in the World Rally Championship's Rally Finland in July.
It has also been claimed that Ferrari's traditional 'World Finals' will for the first time be held in Alonso's homeland, in Valencia in mid-November, where both the Asturian and new sponsor Santander will be officially welcomed into the fold. It is believed that the 21-time grand prix-winner will be the event's surprise guest'
The widely-held view within the grand prix paddock is that Alonso will indeed be sporting scarlet overalls next year, and the man himself, currently struggling midfield in an uncompetitive Renault for the second consecutive campaign, has done little to contradict that.
But Ferrari spokesman Luca Colajanni is adamant that the talk is just idle speculation.
"We are not going to waste our time commenting on speculation," he told Italian newspaper La Gazzzetta dello Sport. "Everyone should remember that Massa and Raikkonen have contracts which include 2010."

Come on Helen! Think of the possibilities!
A cranky Alonso, a highly emotional Ferrari team, and the blood-thirsty Italian press...
Sounds like Wicked Good Fun to me!
Do you remember the fate of Benito Mussolini?
poor lewis he has the girlfreind in tow at every race . he must have his mind on other things. playboy style has set in.
I would not suggest that Alonso was not a good driver, but I would not want him in my team, I have yet to see him fully happy, I mean he spent the first part of this seaon having a good whinge if I remember rightly
When the F60,s are sorted with clearer rules Alo will not be needed,,probably.
look my friends mr alonso, mr button and mr wettle easy the bestest drivers in the f1.
mclaren have the two idiots driving for them. the elderly woman could outdrive those two the losers.
and ferrari have mr raikonen a man who would struggle to master the bumper car at the fair ground.
next season the mclaren ruffians should employ mr button and mr wettle and chop off their dead wood drivers.
ferrari should employ the mr schummacher and mr alonso in the car then we have the real championship.
No Glock No Title .....End of............
Mr hamiltons son has very limited knowledge in Tech terms and very little to offer mclaren other than when hes been fed a silver spoon racing car,,look at him this season........Pathetic..its not the car its not the car
mr hamiltons son is no more than a cheat and fake driver who just got lucky from the back end of hes team stealing secrets and Alonsos input into the team,,,look whats happened to mclaren since alonso left
Alonso and Vettel are the only 2 remaining outstanding drivers on the circuit
Wake up people, when Hamilton and Alonso were teamates, contrary to idle speculation, they "were" on equal footing within the team. Rookie Hamilton outdid his more experienced teamate and almost won championship 1st time out. Alonsos wins last year were obvious to anyone who watched the races, more due to gratuitous situations , and a little luck, than supierior driver skill. That is still a good compliment to rate him 3rd best in the world.
I strongly believe, ferrari should hire Vettel next year and get rid of Raikonnen, he has lost his touch and his timing for F1....he seems to be more interested in Rally driving . Keep Massa and get vettel...he will win them the Title for sure!!
Also, Alonso has created a lot of ill feelings with several F1 teams due to his constant belly aching about the sport.
Good luck Ferrari, go for Vettel.
how is hamilton better than alonso? please explain to me because im rather confused by your stupid comment
Alonso is definitely a great driver, but only 3rd behind Vettel and Hamilton.
"McLaren would have been champions in with him if he had some support.'07.."
Could McLaren have been champions with anyone else that season, if Alonso had given the team and team mate his full support?
Just wondering why it is always put that way round by Alonso fans (p.s. I am not a particular fan of any driver before you all yell at me)
Guess you don't remember Ferrari won the Constructors Championship last year, duh, and Vettel will leave Red Bull where he knows he is in a top car!!! Button will leave Ross...or Ross will drop Button......really, after he puts him on the top of the Drivers standings all year, with the championship in his grasp!!! How many drivers won in a Ferrari before MS, come on. I have to say....do any of you really know anything about F-1.............Dave K.
I recall this Mirko Bortolotti smashed the times the Ferrari drivers had set at Fiorano... Then continued to lower them...
I'm a big fan of Alonso,no driver is perfect...all have made mistakes,....,McLaren would have been champions in with him if he had some support.'07... Ferrari would win for sure with Alonso....that is as close to a gaurantee as you can get. You don't win back to back against Schumacher if your not better than him.... Make Bortolotti a test driver for now.
I lost all respect for Alonso when he tried to blackmail his own team (McLaren) in order to get favored status with them. He's a little weasel in my book. I don't see how any team can trust him.
thank you for those sentiments Feancis S, and I am terribly terribly pleased that you are starting to fulfil your potential due to receiving an education. I am sure that the resot are also pleased, that at least they now know what they are giving the thumbs down to.
Keep up the stirling work old chap
This is for my special friend Helen because she has been so good to me and encouraged me to further my education.
so i sing you to sleep
after the lovinG
with a song that i wrote yesterday
and i hope you can hear
what the words and the music has to say
it's so hard to explain
everything that i'm feelinG
face to face i just seem to go dry
but i love you so much
that the sound of your voice can get me high
thanks for takinG me
on a one way trip to the sun
and thanks for turninG me
into someone
and i know that my song
isn't saying anythinG new
oh, but after the lovinG
i'm still in love with you
When a team sayes that they will not comment on speculation it means that it is true, for if it is not true a simple no is all that is needed to stop further speculation!
