League One - League surprised at Saints pull-out

Eurosport - Wed, 01 Jul 15:29:00 2009

The Football League have reacted with surprise to the reasons behind the Matt Le Tissier-backed Pinnacle consortium's failed takeover of Southampton.

Matt Le Tissier - 0

The proposed buy-out stalled last month over the League's 10-point penalty handed out to Saints after their parent company entered administration back in April.

Yet Le Tissier claims he had persuaded his financial backers to accept the deduction, only for "other issues" to scupper the deal.

But a Football League spokesman said: "We are very surprised by the comments that other conditions, allegedly imposed by the League, led to the Pinnacle Group withdrawing from their proposed takeover of Southampton Football Club.

"Throughout our discussions no conditions other than a waiver in regard to sporting sanctions have ever been raised with us as a major issue.

"The Pinnacle Group has been in receipt of a contract from the League for over a week now. To proceed, all it needed to do was to provide clarification in regard to funding and sign the contract."

  3. The rules is the same for everybody, surely Le Tissier would have advised this consortium that the 10 points deduction was inevitable instead of fooling the fans. It feels more like childish behavious and a way to twist the FA arm but in the end if you want to buy the club, you buy it regardless, 10 points or not.

Bye bye Scummers, Scummers bye bye......

When the going got tough 'Le God' got out. Typical.

Sounds like he was just pretending to be your saviour anyway. Bournemouth started last season on minus 17 points and managed to avoid going down. Next season they'll be challenging for promotion. If 'Le God' really cared about Scumhampton he would be looking to the long term future of the club. Next year would be consolidation..

    You're doomed Scummers.
