Bolton manager Gary Megson has signed Sean Davis on a free transfer - six months after Portsmouth rejected a £3.5million bid for the midfielder.
Megson has beaten a number of clubs for the 29-year-old's services after his contract at Fratton Park expired.
Davis has agreed a three-year deal and Megson said: "We are delighted to have signed such an experienced Premier League footballer.
"Sean made 40 appearances last season for Portsmouth and he will strengthen our midfield.
"We wanted to bring him to the Reebok in January but our bid of £3.5 million was turned down by Portsmouth, who didn't want him to leave."
London-born Davis has made nearly 200 top-flight appearances with Fulham, Tottenham and Portsmouth.

the Toon represents a winner...MY @#$%
What the hell have you won anything, All you fans of Newcastle are the cancer!
An owner who put his money where his mouth was..Ok made some mistakes however his investment in (your club) represents a higher percentage of his cash than you pay for a season ticket.
Big Sam... a great manager who was shafted by your fans before you gave him a chance, the players he brought would have played with heart and soal under him and you wouldnt be where you are now.
It would be better for every football fan in England if Newcastle was brought knocked down and turned into a wast tipp. Then we wouldnt have to read the @#$% you guys write.
You should all be ashamed of yourselfs.
P.S why are you writting on a prem board, go and post in the blue square section.
With regards to Freddy Shepherd. Some idiots are saying "better the devil you know." I'm not having it. The Toon are still trying to recover from the Shepherd era. Ashley was just part of the disease. The infestation began under Shepherd. Shepherd left this club, I hate to say it - but here goes, with a serious cancer. I said at the beggining of last season that NUFC may need to spend some time in the Championship to recover from the critically flawed miss management of Shepherd and Souness. And the transfer policy of Allardice. Barton and Smith etc
It might hurt, but the Championship is probably the place we need to be order to cut the rot out of the Toon and to re - invigorate ourselves. We'll be back. All we need is on owner with intellect and integrity. The club is big enough to generate the resources needed to get back into the top strata. You look at the Wigan's, Hull's and Bolton's of this world. If they had our recent history to deal with, they'd be gone. People are interested because we represent good business. With the right strategy - the Toon represents a winner...
Another one goes, thats most of the midfield gone and no-one on the horizon coming in. Season starts in 6 weeks, we have no team, no manager, no owner. We will be relegation fodder if things dont improve soon. Play up Pompey.
what a loss, good player with a big heart, what the hell is going on at pompey.
bolton should get nolan back
A good buy for Bolton with the other Davies staying it seems that Megson is doing good Business. But for some reason I still think he lacks drive as a Manager.
go down and enjoy it
good signing meggo
who cares pompey are relegated anyway along with bolton
money grabber bolton are no better than Pompey, actually worse!
Davis played a big part in keeping Pompey up. Had we sold him we would likely be in the Championship now. So £3.5M to stay up was probably a bargain, and sorry to see him leave. He will be an asset to BW.
they should have taken the £3.5 million now you got nothing madness
Come on Yahoo! Why was that comment Invalid? All I said was it is madness letting Davis go, especially on a free. Who is running the shop down at fratton?
Take him. He will only let you down when you show faith in him!!!
