Premier League - Edgar signs for Burnley

Burnley manager Owen Coyle has made his third signing of the summer by securing the services of defender David Edgar.

The 22-year-old Canadian has agreed a four-year deal with the newly-promoted Premier League side.

Because of his age, Burnley are now in the process of trying to agree a fee with Newcastle, where his contract expire on June 30.

Edgar made seven starts for the Magpies last season as they were relegated to the Championship.

He follows striker Steven Fletcher and right back Tyrone Mears to Turf Moor as Burnley prepare for their first top flight campaign in 33 years.

Edgar is keen to get a run of games under his belt after being frustrated at Newcastle.

His agent, Barry MacLean told Ontario newspaper The Record: "I'd say he's pretty happy.

"We are looking for him to play regularly at this stage of his career.

"For him to play regular first-team football is critical for him."

Edgar's father Eddie played in goal for Newcastle and Hartlepool before emigrating.

  9. Not sure if this is good business or not. I know he wasn't outstanding but with Cacapa gone, Coloccini going if we can find someone to take a chance on him, and Bassong sure to go, it leaves us a bit short in that area. Maybe he asked for too much money but who can blame him when he's surrounded by turkeys on a lot more than him.
