Premier League - Wolves net Surman

Eurosport - Wed, 01 Jul 19:38:00 2009

Wolves have continued their squad building ahead of the new Premier League season with the capture of Southampton midfielder Andrew Surman.

FOOTBALL Southampton midfielder Andrew Surman, who has been linked with a move to Sheffield United after Saints were relegated from the Championship - 0

The 22-year-old has left his boyhood club for a seven-figure fee, believed to be £1.2 million, to give the debt-ridden Saints a vital cash injection.

Surman, a former England Under-21 international, has signed a three-year deal at Molineux with the option of a further 12 months.

He told the club's official website: "This is a great move for me and I'm really excited. To come to a Premier League club, and one as big as Wolves, is fantastic.

"We'd had a disappointing season at Southampton. I think we had enough quality in the team to be able to do something but unfortunately it all went sour and we ended up getting relegated, which is never nice to have on your CV.

"I'm ready to go again with Wolves. Even though it looks a young side here it's also a very experienced side when you consider how many games they have played."

  4. mike, you really need to take some geography lessons! Calling Wolves "Brummie inbreeds" is akin to calling people from Southampton "Londoners"!! I assume you are from Southampton as, if you had a football club to support, you'd be writing on their forum and not here!!

  9. Wolves are going to surprise some PL teams they have plenty of speed and some solid midfielders. Need another defender though. Mancienne has said he'd like to play there again after his stint last year plus only 2 mill which would be a bargain. A young hungry squad with some experience these guys could get things done.

  11. #6. Yep, reminds me of when we sold Andy Gray to Everton for £250,000! He went on to win the League, Cup and ECWC...I think Surman is an absolute bargain and fits in really well with the young & hungary policy.

  12. Wolves got a bargain in the clear out sale so Southampton can pay the players wages, if they default players are then free to negotiate with other clubs and Wolves picked the right time to solve this and grab a bargain, pity other clubs didn't do this also might have got more money for him I think he was worth at least 2 mill maybe more.

  17. Wolves have got themselves a bargain but in the circumstances a pretty fair price. As a SAINTS fan of many years standing I'm sorry to see him go, but wish him and Wolves the best of luck. Hope we have a decent sell on clause etc.
