Rossi dismisses Ferrari speculation

Eurosport - Wed, 01 Jul 11:57:00 2009

MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi has dismissed the latest speculation linking him with a future switch to Formula One outfit Ferrari.

2008 Test Mugello Ferrari Rossi - 0

It has been speculated that the Italian, who rides for factory outfit Fiat Yamaha, could turn out in a third Ferrari in two years' time.

He has tested for the Scuderia on a number of occasions in recent years.

"In 2010 I have a contract with Yamaha, so it would be difficult or even impossible," the 30-year-old told AFP. "What's more, Ferrari do not have a third car and I have taken no decision about changing sport.

"I am riding my bike, I am happy at Yamaha and I want to stay concentrated on the championship with the objective of winning another title.

"All this started when I was quick in some private tests, but it's one thing to do a good time alone in practice, and another to compete in a race."

Rossi overtook team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and defending title holder Casey Stoner of Ducati Marlboro in the riders' standings at Assen last weekend, joining compatriot Giacomo Agostini as the only other rider in history to have triumphed in 100 races.

The five-times MotoGP champion has also been linked to a future in rallying following a number of semi-successful forays, most recently on last December's Wales Rally GB, the final round on the 2008 World Rally Championship calendar.

  1. I like the comment about never seeing Rossi race.... What do you expect you're if you have your eyes glued to American Chopper the you'll never learn about real motorcycles and as to Rossi going to Daytona Bike Week, Foggy did and nobody knew who he was! Try expanding your horizons and watching Speed Channel, you'll see the most entertaining racing with WSB and Moto GP and you'll learn that not all bikes are for sitting back on and firing once every two lamposts.

Trust me, try it, you'll like it.

  3. Michael C, you have not seen Rossi raced??? Did you watch last year Laguna Seca MOTO GP???? MOTOGP is like F1 in racing for bikes. WSB is like Indy or GP2.

If you have not seen Rossi racing, you do not know what you have missed!

  6. Hey eurosport, your article is full with errors: first - Casey Stoner is not the title holder;
second - Rossi is 6 times MotoGP champion, not 5 times, like in the article.

  8. Funny how when Alonso (who is a very good driver, I will agree) finishes mid-field, it is a 'crappy' Renault that is to blame. In reality though, the Renault (like last season) is not crappy - only poor. If it were as bad as Alonso's fans reckon, it would be last and there would be nothing Alonso could do about it.

You really think Marnio is actually from Peru? All these stupid characters are the invention of a sad woman called Jeanette Bolan who thinks it is funny to annoy people.

  10. Button hasn't win anything to gain the honor of the title "king". Even if he wins this year's title, he will only be a 1 time champion and still not fit to be called "king" yet. He is still a long way to go and it may not happen.

At the moment, I reckon Alonso as the best drivers in the crop. See how he win 2 races with a crappy Renault. After all, he is twice champion. Button has been very ordinary in a crappy Honda. Hamilton is now very ordinary with crappy Mclaren. Similarly, Kimi and Massa is very ordinary in a crappy Ferrari.

Valentino is a 5 times moto GP champion, due respect has to be given to him.

  15. marnio.... your full of @#$%, for a start half of all the F1 teams are based in britain, and most of the body works for the other F1 one teams are made here, also britain started F1 and it is the home of F1, we have Mclaren a british team, and current champions, and also Brawn, current leaders, oh and lets not forget Red bull, the only other competitive team this year, also british, so suck my balls,
what has peru ever done for F1?

  17. Does anybody think that maybe Fiat are using this as a good PR stunt or is this the reason why they sponsor Yamaha in GP's(To have a say in putting rossi in the Ferrari)

  18. Marnio you and all your aka's are just dicks, granted the cost's of food and drinks can be on the costly side. But most Brit F1 can afford the luxury called the British grand prix once a year(just about anyway). It seems really expensive to people who are paind 2 pigs and a goat every 3 months like some of our south american friends
