A wily Spaniard stands in the way of Andy Murray at Wimbledon today.
Murray faces former world number one - and former French Open champion - Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain for a place in the last four.
Murray, bidding to become Britain's first male champion since Fred Perry in 1936, needed five sets to get past Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka in the fourth round on Monday.
It was the latest ever finish to a Wimbledon match courtesy of the Centre Court's £80 million roof being rolled out for the first time.
"Ferrero is a very tough player on virtually all surfaces," said the Scotsman who won the pair's only previous meeting on grass in the semi-finals at Queen's this month.
"I played great at Queen's but if I play poorly on Wednesday there's a good chance I will lose.
"I believe I can win Wimbledon," added Murray. "That's not changed since the first match. But, like I said, I'm gonna have to play great tennis to do it."
Ferrero, now ranked at 70 in the world, was a quarter-finalist at SW19 in 2007 and is the first wildcard to reach the last eight since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001.
That year, Ivanisevic famously won the title.
"I have a little bit more rhythm than that week (at Queen's). I have learned some things. I have to do my job, be aggressive all the time, because he likes to play at one level, and then change the rhythm very fast," said Ferrero.
If Murray gets to the semi-finals, then either 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt or two-time runner-up Andy Roddick will be waiting for him.
Hewitt, the only Australian in the draw, insists he has nothing to fear from the sixth seed after staging his fifth career comeback from two sets to love down to beat Czech 23rd seed Radek Stepanek 4-6 2-6 6-1 6-2 6-2.
That victory, and his second round triumph over fifth seed Juan Martin Del Potro, have given the 28-year-old a huge boost following last year's hip surgery.
Hewitt felt he had the better of Roddick at Queen's earlier this month when he lost in the third round in two tiebreaks.
"Queen's was only one or two points. I felt like I had the better of him in the actual service games that we were playing," Hewitt said.
Hewitt has won six of the pair's 11 meetings, but the American has won the last four, a run stretching back over four years.
"It doesn't get any easier from here. I have loads of respect for Lleyton and what he's been able to accomplish," said Roddick who made the quarter-finals with a straight sets win over Czech Tomas Berdych.

DEAR JEXBI...COMMENT 106...I WOULD TAKE GREAT PLEASURE IN A DUEL WITH INVERKENNY...I THINK ID NEED A MACHINE GUN,CUS HE WOULD PROBABLY TURN UP WITH A RELICA WILLIAM WALLACE SWORD AND SHEILD SCREAMING FREEDOM HA HA
Why does the great Brittish player Andy Murray keep on beating me is it because he has an English girlfriend?
rickarjay, why is somebody nationalist if they don't support a certain player, beats me?
I AM A GREAT BIG SMELLY TURD ALONG WITH MY TEAM MANCHESTER UNITED THEY ARE ALSO A BUNCH OF SMELLY TURDS
Would love to arrange a duel between iverkenny and deeseydave and give them both machine guns ;)
86, sums it all up really, ha ha!
Concerned, always use that lowest of common denominator which is, personal insult and use some convoluted political smokescreen when somebody doesn't share your views, lol
Andy Murray made his comments about supporting anyone who played England when he was being ribbed by an English reporter about England being in the World Cup and Scotland not. He responded as anyone would in that kind of situation, with a bit of humour. Unfortunately the world is full of simple minded and easily manipulated who will believe baldly whatever is written in the press by some hack in search of a story that sells - never mind the truth. I am english and would like to say, good luck to Murray... and, 'grow up', to all you obsessive small minded nationalists for whom the measure of who is a decent person is simply a matter of race or where someone was born. And by the way Andy Murray is way better than 'slightly above average' and he will win grand slams. No one gets to number three in the world without being exceptional.
SCOTTISH TURD WILL LOSE
COME ON FERRERO BEAT THAT RAT
what is wrong with wanting england to lose? nothing, just means you think like the rest of the world, no english at wimbledon, isn't it great, best wimbledon ever, very nice of you to build all those nice tennis courts for everybody else to play on, thank, love from Scotland.
WELL INVERKENNY ..YOU WOULD RATHER LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS WOULD YOU...AND WHY IS THAT?????
The scots have every right not too like us....i mean we only invaded thier country and killed thier women and children. For that to be honest i can take a few jibes about football. Go Murray!!!
i'd rather live in the mountains, any more questions?
the english are not supporting him because he's good, they're supporting him because he's "british" which means they can claim a victory if he wins, if they just supported someone because he was good then they would support federer, as im sure some do, im Scottish and im not interested in "britain", when chris hoy won gold at the olympics he was in a "british" team, so who cares? Andy Murray is not in a "british" team, he is just Andy Murray, and he's Scottish, he thinks like a Scot, he acts like a Scot, anyone who wants england to lose can't be honestly "british" so support him if you like, but please, he's not "british" he's Scottish.
COMMENT 62 HE BOUGHT A £5M HOME IN SURREY BECAUSE ITS EXTREMELY NICE DOWN THERE U FU;'KING @#$% NOT BECAUSE ITS IN ENGLAND,LETS FACE IT DIK.,ED WHERE WOULD U RATHER LIVE LEAFY SURREY WITH THE JET SET OR THE WILDS OF SCOTLAND WITH NOTHING BUT MOUNTAINS SURROUNDING YOU N STRANGE MEN IN SKIRTS.KNO.,B ED.
COMMENT 84...UR A DI,.K,HE MADE THOSE COMMENTS BECAUSE HE MEANT THEM HE DUSNT LIKE THE ENGLISH BUT HES QUITE ALRIGHT WITH THEM WHEN HES GOT THERE SUPPORT AND BACKING.HES SCOTTISH THROUGH AND THROUGH AND WILL GET HIS SCOTTISH ARSE WELL AND TRULY KICKED IF HE HAS THE MISFORTUNE TO MEET FEDERER.
type Andy Murray anti-English myth debunked by Tim Henman
this is Henamns side of it ,
the rest is all balls and the English are showing their hypocrasy
Andy Murray is nothing special. The only reason that anybody takes any notice of him is because he is British. Otherwise he would be recognised as what he really is, a slightly above average tennis player who is unlikely ever to win a grand slam.
Hopefully he will lose soon so that we don't have to listen to any more garbage that is being spouted about him at every opportunity. At least Tim Henman was a nice guy, Murray is an arrogant, rude and irritating young pup who needs to be put back in his place so that we can concentrate on some quality tennis players instead of being bored sennseless by "Murraymania".
nadal is a loser.
i'm irish, but i still hope murray wins! ;-)
