The UKs top mountain bike racers are priming themselves for the National Four Cross (4X) Championships at Redhill, Gloucestershire this weekend. With riders charging elbow to elbow over jumps, drops and berms, racing will no doubt be on the limits.
Redhill Extreme has undergone much redevelopment in 2009 and has been transformed into an outstanding race venue with multiple, flowing lines and huge 30 foot jumps. Often hitting speeds of up to and over 30mph while charging downhill, 4X is not for the faint hearted and provides spectators with breathtaking race action.
A number of the UKs top riders have scored well at the World Cup series this year and will be confident of success on home soil, none more so than Rocky Mountains Scott Beaumont who has dominated the national points series and gained some strong finishes on the international stage.
Chainreaction/Intense rider Lewis Lacey is another hopeful among the elite field, although will face strong opposition from the likes of Tom Dowie and Pat Campbell-Jenner who have nailed some strong finishes on the World Cup circuit this year. The Junior category, for riders between 16-18 years of age promises to be among the most competitive on the day, with a number of very talented young riders capable of the win. Recently returned from injury, Elliott Simmons is one such rider and could well perform the ultimate comeback.
