Hibernian have been told to forget about trying to sign Sunderland striker Anthony Stokes on loan.
The Scottish Premier League side have been heavily linked with the Irishman in recent weeks with reports suggesting they are hoping to seal a year-long temporary move for him.
However, the Black Cats are only interested in a permanent deal for a player who has never been able to establish himself at the Stadium of Light.
Manager Steve Bruce is due to start work on Wearside next week after heading back from his summer break following his appointment last month, and has promised every player in the current squad a chance to prove themselves as he contemplates a fresh recruitment drive.
But that does not appear to extend to the 20-year-old Dubliner, who spent much of last season out on loan, firstly at Sheffield United and then at Crystal Palace.
Hibs' interest in him is understandable - new manager John Hughes was the man who took him to Falkirk, and he is looking for frontmen after selling Steven Fletcher to Burnley.

anthony Stoes never made the grade st SOL becuase he enjoyed drinking and nightclubing too much. He had the talent to make it but not the discipline to carry it out or the right personel to train him.
Sell him to anyone that makes a decent offer to re coup the money that was spent on him
ttiot(tit) yeah the same one you have just crawled from.
Something's missing on here today.................... There appears to be a lack of stinking SKUNKs !!!!!
Hopefully they've all crawled back under their stones.
Another one of Keano's 'one for the future' alas no future at SOL, dead wood, get rid ASAP.
FTM
he is pants backside like a duck and feet that point outwards, no pace, bad attitude its keiron brady mark 2
The lads another Keiron Brady, bags of talent but no application, too keen on the nightlife. Time to get rid.
if falkirk managed im sure hibs could i dont know why yogi doesnt buy him he has £3m to spend
Doubt it, no way the hibbys will be able to affoard Stokes wages so Sunderland would have to pay at least 90% of his salary, whilst giving Hibs a player.
i think with a loan deal its hibs doing them a favour
Need to stop the loans in total (bar the youngsters), get what we can for the dead weight and trim the squad to a decent level!
