Colchester goalkeeper Dean Gerken has joined Championship side Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old has penned a two-year contract at Ashton Gate after falling out of favour at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

He spent time on loan at Darlington last season but will now challenge Adriano Basso for the right to be City`s first choice goalkeeper.

He told City`s official website: "I`m thankful for everything Colchester have done for me but it`s the right time to move on.

"A new manager came in with a different view and a different way in which to take the football club.

"I thank the Colchester supporters for their backing during my time there and the club. It`s time to move on; that`s what happens - it`s football."
