Willie McStay has been confirmed as manager of Hungarian side Ujpest after leaving his role as Celtic reserve coach.
The Hoops agreed to let the former Sligo Rovers manager leave the club in order to take up the position as part of their link-up with the eastern European club. The agreement will see Celtic loan young players to Ujpest while also involving the club in their programme to recruit talent from eastern Europe.
Former Celtic player McStay, who has coached at Parkhead for 15 years, said: "I intend to keep in touch with developments at Celtic but this is a great move for me at this stage of my career and I am really looking forward to the challenge."
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell concluded the deal following talks with Ujpest counterpart Joe Borocz in Glasgow.
Lawwell said: "Willie goes with our very best wishes. This is a tremendous opportunity for him to gain invaluable managerial experience and we wish him every success."
Borocz added: "We are looking forward to welcoming Willie to Budapest. We are confident that he will have a very positive impact on our team and on Hungarian football overall."

You're showing your age like me son hehehe
#2 I remember Ujpest Dosza but I don't know if it is the same team! You may well be right about the future for Willie McStay NokturnalKelt, I certainly hope so; he has the respect of all of those young lads at Celtic Park, and has the team ticking like a Swiss watch. His influence and work ethic will live on for a long time in there. With funny money being thrown about for the transfer of even mediocre players, even the big two can't afford the 'calibre' of player needed to compete with the big boys, so the only way forward, as far as I can see, is to organise the young talent available and build from the ground up, there are some really talented youngsters out there; truly gifted coaches, at whatever level, are few and far between and Willie McStay is certainly that, there is no-one better.
NOK - yes, we did play Dosza way back when Berlin still had a wall, and the curtains were made of iron, etc.. That's when the russki's could field a decent side without masses of roubles BUYING success!!
I reckon that he is lined up for it in the future Lysdexic... Don't think you can expect to Jump straight to the First team manager from Reserve Manager - Successful as he was...
Did this team used to be called Ujpest Dosza or something like that? I think I remember we played them in my distant youth...
Good luck to you Willie. Hope to see you back at Celtic Park as manager; seems like they didn't have the bottle to give you a run at the job; more fool Celtic.
