MOSCOW (AFP) - Chelsea once more had a penalty shootout defeat in Moscow, in the Railways Cup tournament on Friday night, following their Champions League final loss to Manchester United in May.
The stakes were much lower this time however as Luiz Felipe Scolari's men fell to Lokomotiv Moscow 5-4 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 in this semi-final of a friendly, pre-season event.
It was Andrei Shevchenko who missed the fatefull kick, sending Lokomotiv into Sunday's final where they will meet Sevilla, 1-0 victors over AC Milan in the other last-four match.
Chelsea dominated play from the start and went into the lead through Michael Essien, who fired home on 27 minutes after Nicolas Anelka fed him on the edge of the box from Deco's precise cross from the right.
After the break Chelsea still dominated play but the hosts nevertheless managed to equalise through defender Ruslan Kambolov, who beat Chelsea keeper Petr Cech with a well-struck freekick with six minutes to go.
In a penalty shootout that followed Cech parred the series-opening spotkick by Lokomotiv skipper Diniyar Bilyaletdinov but Lokomotiv goalkeeper Ivan Pelizzoli denied Wayne Bridge's attempt later to level the scores.
Pelizzoli deflected Shevchenko's shot to put his side into the final.
In the other semi-final, AC Milan stopper Gennaro Gattuso netted the only goal of the match sending the ball into his own net in an attempt to clear Enzo Maresca's right-handed cross from a freekick two minutes after the interval.
Chelsea play AC Milan for third-place in the tournament, also on Sunday.

ha ha ha (again) as i said on here last night i hope ronaldo does go because he is embarrassing, but how can you call him when you have got drogba oh my god your going to miss him for the start of the season when he is at the olympics, i can see him now floating down from the top board straight into the pool, a perfect ten everytime. how he managed to play all those games for you last season i don't know, i watched a lot of your games last season and he must have broken at least one leg in most of the games, perhaps we should step up the security at grounds next season and try to stop the sniper getting in that kept shooting him, can't be any other explanation why he kept throwing himself to the ground when there was nobody else around. can't understand why these jerks (and i include ronaldo) keep doing it don't they realise how many cameras are at each game these days, and no i am a lifelong united fan and i can remember the days (very vividly) when we were winning nothing but the odd cup and were spending a fortune each season trying to buy the title, until we got a great team spirit we didn't stand a chance and when fergie does go i don't think we will be the same for a while if at all. calm down you bitter blues we may have been scabby last season but once again we need a new shelf fitting in the trophy cabinet, all you have to show for last season is a box of half empty kleenex.
So Drogba doesn't dive? joe cole doesn't dive? united scabby? what are you babbling on about?
you're that confident you manc idiot? only a few days ago fergie started his mind games saying Chelsea are too old? was that just to deflect man u 'tapping' up complaint? it's idiots like you that f@+* other fans off, probably unlike you i've been a long life Chelsea fan through the good and bad times, and yeah there've been plenty of them too, not smeone then jumped on the man u band wagon when they came good. oh and won't be JT crying when ron-throw myself on the floor give me a free kick cheat-aldo leaves will it?? it'll be all you mancs saying goodbye. good luck :-)
didnt united nearly sack fergie before he won in 89-90?
give big phil a chance united fans who put silly coments up must be frightened cos they know they were scabby last year
well lets just see
shall we
ha ha ha pity it wasn't john spitting terry that missed again. did he cry again though, good job shevchenkos confidence must be sky high after last season otherwise it may play on his mind next year. roll on next season when big phil will be found out to be clueless at the premiership level. its a @#$% up between him and keegan as to who walks away first. chelsea will be lucky to come runners up next year, personally as a united fan i am more worried about the scousers now they have got keane with torres. and arsenal are also likeley to be running it very close, hopefully tottenham will come good and push chelski into the uefa cup spot. the bubble has burst you sad little cockney blue gimps
john terry boo hoo
