Formula One legend Michael Schumacher hit a pedestrian while driving a Fiat Ducato van in Kent on Sunday.
The German struck car dealer Martin Kingham while overtaking an elderly lady driver on his way to a private airfield.
Kingham was closing a security gate when Schumacher, who has appeared in adverts driving a Fiat van, made contact, leaving him startled but unhurt.
"I was putting the security bars up outside the garage before going home," Kingham told the Daily Mirror. "I have to stand on the edge of the road and keep an eye on traffic.
"Out of nowhere I heard a bang from behind me. It spun me round and I was thrown forward on to my face, hitting the bonnet of a parked van. Then I saw a big blue van go by and realised they'd hit me. I thought I recognised the driver, but my head was spinning."
Kingham claims Schumacher reacted furiously, blaming him for the accident.
"He was screaming, 'What the f*****g hell were you doing in the road?' He seemed cross, as if I was in the wrong. I called the police," he said.
Schumacher passed a breathalyser test before Kingham was told who was at the wheel of the van.
"The officers asked me to wait in my office while they spoke to him," he said. "An officer came in and said 'This guy's claiming to be Michael Schumacher'. Then another told us she'd seen his ID and it was him.
"Try telling people you were hit by Michael Schumacher and see what response you get. My wife thought I was winding her up. I guess it shows once a racing driver, always a racing driver. The old ladies were probably only doing 30mph and he fancied his chances.
"He probably wasn't expecting me to be in the road. Still, I'm lucky to be in one piece and I suppose it's a great story, so no harm done."
A spokesperson for Schumacher confirmed the incident and said the former Ferrari man had co-operated fully with police at the scene.

Schumi driving a big blue van!!! ...Sounds fishy!,Should'nt he be driving a 360 or an Enzo!. Neways, Kingham got lucky, he got to meet the best of the best, the living legend, the one and the only.... Micheal Schumacher. I wish I was Kingham!.
So did he make the overtake or did the old lady hold her position? - c'mon details please... ;P
Here's what I reckon...
The 'Schumi' driver was actually a terminator sent from the future by an ageing Luca De Montezemolo to wipe out the forebears of the next British F1 multiple world champion who would have driven for McLaren. He was on his way to the job when the incident happened and the mission was called off. He'll be back.....
Re: Post 151
Keep out of this Kingham, we're having fun.
Schumi what a fookin legend
Rules are rules.
One of the first parts of the Highway Code states: Give way to pedestrians.
He was obviously traveling too fast for the road conditions. Ban the bast..., there are too many nutters on the roads and he needs to be made an example of.
why is this such a big deal? It is just another minor highway incident why are people falling over each other bcoz of it? Come on Yahoo! give us some real news
Hi C.D. if you read my post carefully you will see that I have been the one that has stopped at zebra crossings traffic lights and has had to approach a zebra crossing with a buggy and baby on the crossing whilst the mother was busy talking on the phone. I have not hit anyone or had an accident in 39 years of driving, can you say the same?
Or are you one of the push bike brigades that drive through red lights giving the car drivers crossing in the other direction, heart attacks!
You are talking out the back of your arse, we need locking up because we are arrogant; you mean locking up because I say it as it truly is, and no one can say they have not had similar happen to them.
You cannot blame the driver every time, ever heard of wait until the traffic stops! Or look right look left and right again, if all clear walk smartly across!
Read ainsley599 post No 165. Is it not questionable that this man has to swing the security bar around in the road!
wrong place wrong time for both !! then again think about it if you told everyone you was hit by a popular driver such as schumie ,everyone would laugh in your face !!
I live locally and know that the garage owner is milking this story. He should have been paying more care and attention whilst swinging the security bar around in the road. Lucky he didn't kill someone or cause a major accident!!!
How many people who have commented on this have read the story through? The person who was hit was going about his normal routine of securing his property. MS was overtaking another vehicle. According to my view of the Highway Code, you do NOT overtake unless it is safe to do so. In this case it was not. Either that or MS was WAY over the other side of the road as to be nearly on any pavement.
He is a very experienced driver he should be more careful next time......
Who does he think he is. Stirling Moss?
I'm amazed at all the pro Schumacher posts on here..... or am I? Bully boys are all the rage these days (rage - pun intended) so why should Schue be any different? And we've already seen ample evidence that the man has the capacity to hit the rage button extremely easily (Coulthard/Hill). However, maybe, just maybe, the man he hit was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Bet he checks over his shoulder next time .......
Schumacher's reaction does not suprise me. I worked with an Austrian guy who expected all the laws in the U'K to be the same as Austria (apart from driving on the other side). Also, Schumacher will have been brought up in a country where they have laws against jaywalking, and so won't expect to find people in the road like brits do.
(The Austrian guy had an accident where he was turning right at a roundabout, using the left lane of the two-lane roundabout. In Austria, people on the inside (nearer the centre) of the roundabout have to give way to those on outer circles, and it's quite OK to go all the way round the outside of a roundabout - not the case in he UK. He simply could not understand that our laws could be different. I pity the poor guy that hit him on the roundabout, it would have been like talking to a brick wall - well, it certainly was in the office afterwards when we tried to explain that he was no longer in Kansas.
haha..nice story. btw, i have to say shumi rite on this one. that guy soo @#$% stupid because he on the road. shumi have every reason to upset. and who would not overtake a granny drive 30mph? i dont have that much patient to stay behind such a slow driver, and u expect shumi to?
Shumi, no doubt, had just been bested by The Stig and was in no mood for lawful driving.
It seems to me that jbolan and pauljgregory are the ones needing locking up - they epitomise the ignorant, arrogant drivers we have to avoid every day because they are too stupid to realise how incompetent they really are behind the steering wheel of a car.Schummacher is an arrogant sod and needs to be taken to task for his actions!
jetfighter
@#$%!!!.After 21 year of clean driving,I was driving in North Wales,I was driving at a leasurely speed(or so I thought)and get a Speeding Ticket for doing 6 MPH over the limit in some Poxy ridden place called.....(Sorry,Have to look up how you spell this HICK dump.)Oh,Yer Llangollen,(Wasn't he in Lord of the Rings?,Can't these people speak English.)And get a £60.00 fine from the Local Nazi party leader.Schumacher will probably be smacked on his Eyebrow pencil and told and to sharpen his reaction and not run down people in the middle of the road Again,or we'll convert your Zimmer Frame to Diesel.
michael is the man...he can do whtevr da fk he wants.....
