Russia striker Pavel Pogrebnyak has joined Bundesliga club Stuttgart from Zenit St Petersburg.

"The transfer has been approved by the club's head coach (Dick Advocaat)," Zenit said on their website.

On Friday angry Advocaat lashed out at the club's management over what he called inadequate player reinforcements.

He said he wanted to sign "two or three top class strikers" but instead Zenit had bought Italian midfielder Alessandro Rosina from Serie B side Torino.

Pogrebnyak, 25, has been Zenit's top striker since joining the St Petersburg club from Siberian side Tom Toms in 2007.

He was a regular with the Russian national team but was forced to miss last year's European championship finals with a knee injury.

Zenit did not disclose transfer details nor the length of Pogrebnyak's contract with Stuttgart.

  3. Pogrebnyak will be one of the best strikers in Germany, he has the potential to become better than Mario Gomez. Stuttgart look good for the season with their impressive signings. Hleb, Pogrebnyak with the young players they can challenge Bayern.
