Rangers kicked off the 2009 Emirates Cup in fine style with a 1-0 win over Paris Saint Germain.

The Gers dominated for the most part and were rewarded when Madjid Bougherra thundered home a header with 14 minutes remaining.

Rangers fans have endured a tough summer, with a host of players sold and none brought in, but victory over the French giants will boost morale ahead of the new season.

The SPL champions made a bright opening and Kenny Miller went close inside five minutes, curling a left-footed effort wide after spinning away from his marker.

Mevlut Erding has plenty to live up to following his big-money move from Sochaux and he showed some early intent when dragging a shot wide and heading over from six yards.

For all Erding's threat, Rangers were the dominant force in the first half and Gregory Coupet had to be alert to snuff out the threat of Miller.

PSG took some time to find their feet, but should arguably have found themselves ahead at the break.

Erding squandered a couple of good chances, firstly failing to make contact with a great cross from Jean Maurice and secondly clipping a shot onto the roof of the net following a sublime pass from Claude Makelele.

For all the bright attacking play, it took 76 minutes for an effort to be registered on target and it proved to be the winning goal.

Rangers looked threatening at set-pieces throughout, Kyle Lafferty thudded a header against the post early in the second half, and Bougherra rammed home this point with the winning goal.

The big defender climbed high to meet a corner from Pedro Mendes and his effort crashed against the underside of the bar and over the line.

    anyway.. I watched­ it. we played pretty slick tbh, but didn't properly­ penetrate. our first shot on target was the­ goal...
    that Aaron boy looks like he could be a bit of­ alright btw, seems to have bulked up a bit, he's­ looking good :)
