Simon Grayson is hoping Neil Kilkenny will feature in Leeds' first game of the season against Exeter despite the midfielder's ongoing ankle problems.
The Australia international has missed all of United's pre-season friendlies after aggravating the injury in the first week of training this summer and is not expected to play any part against Burnley on Saturday.
But Grayson is satisfied with Kilkenny's preparations for the season overall and will continue to monitor his progress ahead of the Grecians' visit.
He told the Yorkshire Post: "He's another one that we didn't want to rush back, just in case there were any repercussions.
"He won't have had any pre-season games, but he's worked hard in rehab with our physios.
"He shouldn't be too far away, just a little bit short."
